Wednesday June 5: We did our final lesson for the course, reviewing grade 11 absolute value graphing in the context of this year's transformational graphing approach.  We did these examples together.  then we had work time for the reviews from yesterday to prepare for tomorrow's test.

Tuesday June 4:  Work period.  Your decision on which outcomes you want to re-assess on June 13th is due today.   I handed out a  Chapter 11 review/practice quiz  (here is a key).  First, make sure you finish the  Chapter 11 Exercise booklet.  I handed out copies of 2 practice provincial exams today.  You can download more practice exams EXAMS (and their marking guides) here.

Monday June 3: we went through a couple of examples together from the textbook review on pages 546-548.  Then we had some work time to finish the rest of the  Chapter 11 Exercise booklet.  If anyone is finished the booklet, you can work on the textbook review pages.  I'll have more review for you tomorrow (I hope).  The test is Thursday.  I also handed out each student's current grade in the course and asked them to select which outcomes they might want to re-assess on the June 13th optional re-test day.  I need that decision BY TOMORROW or I will assume you don't want to re-assess anything.

Friday May 31:  we finished up part 2 of Lesson 11.3 on the Binomial Theorem in the Chapter 11: Permutations, Combinations and the Binomial Theorem booklet.  Then we had work time for the two 11.3 worksheets in the Chapter 11 Exercise booklet.  If you want more practice on this topic, go to textbook page 542 #1-4, 5c,6c,7-12,15,18,19,C2.

Thursday May 30:  we briefly went over the rest of the Combinations lesson (11.2 - page 17 in the  Chapter 11: Permutations, Combinations and the Binomial Theorem booklet which is definitely not on our test and likely not on the exam.  Then we started lesson 11.3: the Binomial Theorem.  We made it up to page 20 before calling it a day.  You can do the 11.3 Part 1 worksheet in the  Chapter 11 Exercise booklet tonight, but you will have some work time tomorrow after I go through part 2.

Wednesday May 29:  we did most of lesson 11.2 today, in the  Chapter 11: Permutations, Combinations and the Binomial Theorem booklet, which introduces Combinations.  We are now up to page 16.  Lots of people away - you need to make sure that you are keeping up with the video lesson from the chapter 11 playlist.  We have already covered the first 9 of those videos!  Tonight's homework is to try the 11.2 worksheet in the Chapter 11 Exercise booklet (you have to skip number 8 until tomorrow).

Tuesday May 28: we continued through lessons 11.1 in the  Chapter 11: Permutations, Combinations and the Binomial Theorem booklet.  Getting up to the end of page 13.  You can now do the 11.1 worksheet in the Chapter 11 Exercise booklet for tomorrow.

Monday May 27: we started Chapter 11: Permutations, Combinations and the Binomial Theorem today.  We did the lessons and examples up to page 6.  I  handed out the Chapter 11 Exercise booklet today, but we haven't quite made it to the point where we can do the first worksheet.  Until then you can do textbook page 524 #1-4,6,7,22,24,C3.  STUDENTS WHO MISSED CLASS FOR THE ELA EXAM:  you are responsible for getting this lesson on your own.  The lesson is broken into videos:  Counting PrincipleFactorialsPermutations make sure you have reviewed these and completed the notes - tomorrow's lesson will not make much sense to you without it!

Friday May 24: CHAPTER 9 & 10 TEST: RATIONAL FUNCTIONS (R14) and OPERATIONS ON FUNCTIONS (R1)

Thursday May 23: I handed out another Chapter 10 Review (here is an answer key) and we had work time to prepare for tomorrow's test.  THERE IS A MISTAKE ON THE 10.3 ASSIGNMENT ANSWER KEY:  #8c should be x^4+2x^3-x and 8d should be x^4-2x^3+2x^2-x

Wednesday May 22: I handed back the Exponents and Logs test and went over a few questions, then we went over a few problems together from 10.2 and 10.3 Assignment worksheets in the Chapter 10 Exercises booklet.  To prepare for Friday's test, make sure that you have done the worksheet with Extra Practice for 9.2 (here is the answer key), the review at the end of the Chapter 9: Rational Functions Notebook, and finally the Chapter 10 (R1) Mini-review that I handed out today.

Tuesday March 5:  We started the next unit today.  I handed out a Grade 11 Trig Review Worksheet (this file has the answer key at the end).  It to be worked on after the test on Thursday and is due Monday.  I highly recommend that when you get stuck on old material, you go back to the grade 11 lessons video page and review Chapter 2: Trigonometry.  I also handed out the Chapter 4:  Trigonometry and the Unit Circle booklet and went over lesson 4.1 (you can re-watch the lesson in 2 parts: part 1 and part 2 and part 3).  If you find the Grade 11 review quick and want to work ahead, you can start on the 4.1 assignment on page 28 of the booklet, but I won't officially assign it until Friday.

Monday March 4: we went through the 4 examples of the 3.4 Applications chapter in the  Chapter 3: Polynomials Booklet, which brings us to the end of the chapter.   We test Thursday, so I handed out an R11, R12 (Chapter 3) Review (the file has it's own key at the end).  For the R13 (Chapter 2) outcome, you should do the review on the last 4 pages of the Chapter 2 Radical Functions  booklet.  If you are looking for more review to get ready for the test, the textbook has a Chapter 2 review on pages 99-103 and Chapter 3 review is on pages 153-156.

Friday March 1:  we had time in class to work on pages 22 and 23 of the  Chapter 3: Polynomials Booklet then we went over it together (answer key for pages 22-23  - or feel free to check your answers with DESMOS).  Speaking of answer keys, page 11's assignment has two omissions on the answer key:  for question #2b, there is a remainder of -12 and for question #2c, there is a remainder of 12 and there is a typo, #7c the factor should be x +4, also here is the page 17 assignment answer key  For Monday, make sure you are done the Sketching Polynomial Functions on page 24 of the booklet.  If you want to start getting ready for next Thursday's test, I handed out a Chapter 2.1 mental math activity that you can use as a little introductory review (the file linked here has an answer key after the blank page).  You could also do the review at the end of the the Radical Functions  booklet.  If you want more Chapter 2 practice, you could do questions from pages 99-103 of your textbook,  Similarly, if you want to start reviewing Chapter 3, you can work on the review at the end of the booklet, or pages 153-155 of the textbook.

Thursday Feb 28:  we went through Lesson 3.4, sketching polynomial functions and multiplicities on pages 18-21 of the Chapter 3: Polynomials Booklet.  Your new assignment is the Sketching Polynomial Functions on page 24 of the booklet.  Tomorrow will be work time for pages 22 and 23 of the booklet.  If you want to try them tonight, go ahead - you can always check your sketches using DESMOS.   If you want extra practice, try the textbook assignment at the bottom of page 21.  You can rewatch the lesson herehere, and here.

Wednesday Feb 27: we went over the "You Try" problems on page 3 of the Chapter 3: Polynomials Booklet , then we looked at characteristics of polynomial functions (video lesson here) and went over the matching problem on page 5.  Then we did the application examples on page 6 and the factor theorem (video lesson here) and integral zeros theorem (video here) taking us to the end of lesson 3.3 on pages 13-16.  You can now finish the page 11 worksheet and do the worksheet on page 17.

Tuesday Feb 26: we went though Lesson 3.2 (video lesson here and here) and most of Lesson 3.1 (video lesson here) in the new Chapter 3: Polynomials Booklet (pages 2,3,7-10).  For tonight, do the "You Try" questions on page 3, Read page 4, do the matching problem on page 5 and then do #1-4 on the Page 11 worksheet.

Monday Feb 25:  we did the Chapter 1 optional re-test today.  Students who did not want to do that re-test worked on the 2.3 worksheet on page 21 of the Radical Functions  booklet.  If you are finished that, you can work on the review at the end of the booklet, or any of the textbook assignments for chapter 2 (you can find them on the bottom of pages 5, 11, 20 of the booklet).  Reminder that if you are doing textbook problems, see above for the solutions.

Friday Feb 22:  RATS! I COMPLETELY forgot about the Pep rally being in period 2 today.  NEW PLAN:  we'll do the re-test and/or have work time for he 2.3 worksheet on Monday, and if we have some time after the pep rally, we'll start on Chapter 3: Polynomials.

Thursday Dec 13:  we went through lesson 9.3 in the Chapter 9: Rational Functions Notebook.  Part of the lesson was solving equations with rationals both algebraically and graphically.  That stuff WILL be on the next test and the exam.  The second part of the lesson was weird graphs (graphing rational equations with asymetrical curves and/or diagonal asymptotes) that, rest assured,  will NOT be on next week's test OR the provincial exam.  It IS possible that you might have to match an equation to a graph, or be able to tell when the graph of an equation will be weird. So now you can do the 9.3 Assignment in the Chapter 9 Assignment Booklet.

Wednesday Dec 12: we went through the rest of lesson 9.2 in the Chapter 9: Rational Functions Notebook.  Then we did question 3a on the 9.2 worksheet of the Chapter 9 Assignment Booklet.  You can do the rest of that worksheet tonight.  If you want more practice, there is a  TEXTBOOK assignment page 451 #4-10,18,C1

MISTAKE ON THE ANSWER KEYS: WORKSHEET 9.1.  The asymptotes should be x = -4 and y = -1.  WORKSHEET 9.2:  4b should have a p.o.d at (3,-1/6), #5c and 5d switched answers.  WORKSHEET 10.3 #4f should be 0.

Thursday Nov 1:  My lesson today jumped around in the  Chapter 5: Trig Functions and Graphs booklet a little.  We started by finishing off the example on page 11 (the first section of 5.2).  Then we did the first two examples of 5.4 on pages 17 and 18 and the first example from the second section of 5.2 on page 12.  Sorry for the scatter, but I am hopefully creating the impression that all of these concepts are really the same topic and they shouldn't be looked at as separate "chapters".  I'll finish off the 5.2 and 5.4 examples tomorrow.  For tonight, hopefully you have finished the page 23 assignment and are ready to do the page 25 assignment.  If it goes well, you can start on the page 27 assignment, but keep in mind I haven't shown you all of the examples of those types of problems yet.  As always, if you are looking for more practice, try the textbook questions or the Graphing, More Graphing, and Still More Graphing pages from the Flamingo Math Booklet.

Wednesday Oct 31:  Happy Halloween!  Today we did the first part of lesson 5.2 in the  Chapter 5: Trig Functions and Graphs booklet.  This is a very technical lesson, with a lot of minor details that need to be done just right to achieve the skill of being able to graph sinusoidals.  I highly recommend you refer to the lesson videos when you try sketching these graphs yourself in the assignment on page 25 of the booklet.  Reminder that there are more questions for practice on the Graphing, More Graphing, and Still More Graphing pages from the Flamingo Math Booklet - I handed them out yesterday.  The answer key is at the end of the file link. There is also the textbook assignments from the notes booklet.  Page 205 #1,2,3 are especially good practice.

Tuesday Oct 30:  we finished off the 5.1 lesson, did the 5.3 lesson, and we used Desmos to do two examples that are not in the booklet of y = sinx +2 and y = cos(x-pi).  You can now do all of the questions on the 5.1 and 5.3 Assignment, page 23 of the Chapter 5: Trig Functions and Graphs booklet.   The video clips and animations I used in class today are here: Rolling Out a Cirlce, Generating Sine Curves from the unit circle (version 1 and version 2),  Generating the Sine curve from a triangleGenerating Cosine curve from a triangle, Generating Sine curve from simple harmonic motion: ferris wheel, cgi springspray paint on a spring, newtonian pendulum (number 1number 2number 3).  If you finish the page 23 assignment, for more practice I handed out the Graphing, More Graphing, and Still More Graphing pages in the Flamingo Math Booklet - the answer key is at the end of the file.

Monday Oct 29:  back to graphing!!  I handed out the Chapter 5: Trig Functions and Graphs booklet, and we went though Lesson 5.1 and 5.3.  The assignment for this section is on page 23 of the booklet - you can start it, but skip questions #3 and 5 (it's about tangent, which will be part of tomorrow's lesson).

Friday Oct 26:  the best part of having a test on Friday is that means you have a homework free weekend!  Chapter 4 test today.

TYPOS: ON 4.1 ASSIGNMENT, #5 should end with"tenth of a centimetre" and #6 should end with "tenth of a degree", 4.3 ASSIGNMENT #1,h and #3,f  should be "undefined" and #3c should be a negative, but the number is correct, and #3d should be 13/12.  4.4 ASSIGNMENT, #2g should be 11pi/4 not 9pi/4 and #4,f is undefined

Monday Oct 1:  we went through the last example in the  Trigonometry Notebook. It should now be completely filled in and all Chapter 2 videos should be done.  Then we did a couple of problems that people were having trouble with in the  Trigonometry Assignment Book.  Then I showed the class how to derive Cosine Law.  Your new assignment is to finish the  Trigonometry Assignment Book, odds from #335-379 on pages 50-61.

Friday Sept 28:  work period, as I am away at a conference.  Hopefully, last night you finished the odds up to #305 (pages 34-43) in the  Trigonometry Assignment Book.  If you aren't, finish them immediately.  Then do the Trigonometry Assignment that my guest teacher will hand out.  Then you can work on the odd numbered questions #307-333 from pages 44-49.  This weekend, do the notes/video for the last T3 outcome: Cosine Law.  If you are working ahead and want to keep going, you could ask my guest teacher for next week's Trig Review Assignment (here is the key).

Thursday Sept 27:  the self-righteous won the day, and we lost our class to march through the rain.

Wednesday Sept 26:  we did an ambiguous sine law activity together, then went over an example of a heading problem.  Tonight, you should do video/notes for T3 2.3B and work on odds up #305 (pages 34-43) in the  Trigonometry Assignment Book.  You'll get more time for that on Friday (but I will be assigning other stuff too).  We lose our class tomorrow to the Terry Fox Run.

Tuesday Sept 25:  we did a 2.2 mini quiz, then we went over some examples of solving for exact trig values and solving trig equations.  I handed out this Determing Exact Value Worksheet and a 2.1 Trig Equations Sheet, they should be done for tomorrow.  Also you should do notes/examples for T3 2.3A tonight.  If you are ready to move on, work on odds up #305 (pages 34-43) in the  Trigonometry Assignment Book.

Monday Sept 24:  We started with a 2.1 mini quiz.  Tonight's homework is to watch/do notes for the 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 videos and finish  the odd questions from pages 5-33 of the  Trigonometry Assignment Book.  If you are done that, you can start on this Determing Exact Value Worksheet that I am going to hand out tomorrow.  After that, there are some people ready to move on, so in class today, I introduced the Sine Law and you can try odds up to #305 (pages 34-43) in the  Trigonometry Assignment Book.

Friday Sept 21: work period.  Over the weekend, you should watch the video and do the  notes for Chapter 2.2.1, then keep working on the odd questions from pages 5-33 of the  Trigonometry Assignment Book,  keeping in mind that you should be done them for Tuesday and will have more work time in class on Monday.

Thursday Sept 20:  we worked out our first unit circle (here is a blank one if you want more to practice on) and did an example of an exact value (with no calculator) trig problem.  You should now be ready to try all of the odd questions from pages 5-33 of the  Trigonometry Assignment Book, which I think would be questions #1-267!  I'll give you until Tuesday to plow through that, including an entire work period tomorrow (probably most of another one on Monday).  For homework tonight, watch the videos and do notes for 2.1.2 and 2.1.3.

Wednesday Sept 19: I handed out the new  Trigonometry Notebook.  I gave some time to work on the 2.0 questions on the third page (you can watch this video for the answer key if you need it).  Then I went through part of the 2.1.1 lesson.  Tonight, you need to watch the rest of the 2.1.1 lesson video and the 2.1.2 video (and do the notes).  If you still need to finish questions 1-25 starting on page 5 of the  Trigonometry Assignment Book, then do that.  If you want to start on tomorrow's assignment it will be the odd numbered questions from 27-59 starting on page 8.

Tuesday Sept 18: Sequences and Series Test today.  I handed out the new assignment book, we'll call it the Trigonometry Assignment Book.  For tomorrow, read pages 4-5 and try the questions #1-25 (you can have until Thursday to do the questions).

Monday Sept 17:  we went over the 1.5 mini quiz from yesterday.  We did some review together, then had some time to work on review from this booklet of practice that you can download here.

Friday Sept 14:  We went over yesterday's 1.4 mini-quiz and did a 1.5 mini quiz.  If you are done all of the odds up to page 46 you are caught up on all homework.  We test next week, so you should be reviewing by doing some of the even numbered questions that we skipped, or trying some of the supplementary textbook questions from the ends of the lessons.  Otherwise, no new assignment today.

Thursday Sept 13:  we went over yesterday's 1.3 mini quiz, then we did one for Lesson 1.4.  Then we looked at a couple of interesting Infinite Geometric series ideas, including the famous Von Neumann Fly Puzzle.  Then we had some work time for the 1.5 assignment, odd questions from the Sequences and Series Assignments Book, pages 42-46.  No new video tonight.

Wednesday Sept 12: we went over a couple of 1.3 questions from pages 26-34 of the Sequences and Series Assignments Book. Then we looked at some common errors from the 1.2 quiz from yesterday.  Then we did a 1.3 mini quiz and had a little time to work on the 1.4 assignment, odd numbered questions from pages 35-41 .  Your homework tonight is to finish that and do the notes/video for 1.5.  If you are ready to move on you can start the odd questions from pages 43-46.

Tuesday Sept 11: we went over a couple of 1.2 questions from pages 17-22 of the  Sequences and Series Assignments Book.  Then we discussed the 1.3 Lesson and derived the formulas for 1.3 and 1.4.  Then we did a 1.2 Mini Quiz (hand in this time) and finally we had some work time for the 1.3 assignment: the odd numbered questions from pages 26-34.  Finish those for tomorrow and watch the 1.4 video and do the notes.

Monday Sept 10:  we did a 1.1 Mini Quiz to make sure everyone is on top of things.  Then we had work time for odd numbered questions from pages 17-22 of the  Sequences and Series Assignments Book.  Then we looked at how to derive the formulas we have used in lessons 1.1 and 1.2 and we looked at sigma notation and did some of the problems from pages 23-25 together.  Tonight's homework is to finish the 17-22 questions and do the 1.3 Lesson in the Sequences and Series Notes Booklet.  If you are working ahead, the 1.3 assignment will be the odd numbered questions from pages 26-34.

Friday Sept 7: we discussed the 1.1 Lesson from the Sequences and Series Notes Booklet and had work time for odd numbered questions on pages 8-16.  They are due Monday.  We will do a little quiz on this material to check your understanding.  If you want to work ahead, watch the 1.2 Lesson, fill in your notes and work on odd numbered questions from pages 17-22 of your assignment booklet.

Thursday Sept 6:  Welcome back everyone!  We handed out your first unit notes booklet:  Sequences and Series Notes Booklet .  As we discussed in class, we won't be officially assigning the textbook assignments referred to in the notes packages.  We will be using the MathBeacon Booklets; the first one will be referred to as Sequences and Series Assignments Book.

For our first class we did a fun activity involving sequences and patterns.  Here it is if you missed it.

Your first homework assignment is to watch the video and complete the notes for Lesson 1.1 of your Sequences and Series Notes Booklet.  You will have class time tomorrow to work on pages 7-16 in the Sequences and Series Assignments Book.

Friday Sept 7:  We begin the course more officially today, with some worksheets.  The first one: here is to refresh your memory on how to deal with percents.  The second one: here will be a hand in for marks (watch rounding!) - we'll make the due date for that to be Wednesday.  The answer keys for the practice one is here.  We will have more work time for them on Monday, but we will also start working on the Probability unit.

Thursday Sept 6:  Welcome Back!...and we're off and running. Here is the course outline   We'll start the course proper tomorrow.  Today, we discussed the meaning of two important ideas in math:  factors and percentages.  Then we did the taxman puzzle to merge both ideas together.  I added the percentages to the puzzle to keep it relevant to what I want to do tomorrow, but if you want to see the original puzzle (I found it in the New York Times) here it is.  Then we played the SET game which you can find here:  https://www.setgame.com/set/puzzle
