(ANSWER KEYS HERE: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4) - watch for typos on: Ch 3 #5d (it factors to 1/4(x+8)^2+4, they factored out the 1/4 incorrectly), Ch 9 #7, Ch 2 #6 (wrong answer circled), Ch 6 #3 should say x can't equal -5 not -2.
Thursday Jan 22: For the last class of the semester, we just had time to work on the exam review. See you Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in room 203 for your Mid-Term exam. Bring your calculators - part of the exam allows you to use them. Also, please bring your textbooks to turn in.
Wednesday Jan 21: OPTIONAL RE-TEST DAY. If you finish early (or chose not to re-test any outcomes) it is work time for exam reviews.
Tuesday Jan 20: I handed back your Chapter 8/9 Test and a Progress Report so you can see what your term mark is before your final decision on what you want to re-test tomorrow and you hand in THIS PAGE by the end of class. You should bring your Exam reviews in with you tomorrow. If you are re-testing outcomes, you may have time at the end of the period and if you aren't re-testing anything, you have the entire period to work on review.
CHAPTER 8 & 9 TEST MONDAY JAN 19
Friday Jan 16: Review day! We started by going over some of the page 484 and 496 questions, then we did a Chapter 9 Mini Quiz , (here is the answer key). Then we let people have work time for the reviews at the end of the two chapter notes booklets (here is a key for page 19 of the Chapter 9 booklet). If you finish those and want some more review this weekend, I handed out this Chapter 8 & 9 Practice test (here is the answer key). Also, I need your CUSR data for the report card. If you missed today's class, watch this video and send me your CUSR choices on Edsby. If I don't hear from you by the end of next week, I will just use the same ones from the last report card (unless, of course, I feel like they need changing).

The answer keys for the notebook pages are at the back of the Part B booklet.
Tuesday Nov 25: We took one last look at the two page 292 questions that (I am pretty sure) are both wrong in the answer key (#22 and #26). Then we went over a few questions from page 21 of the notes booklet and #1 and 2 on the Radical Challenge Problems sheet - we also linked that #2 problem back to the last question on your Chapter 4 test. Be skeptical of the mystical nonsense attributed to phi. Phi is cool, but here is a rational look at it's actual significance. After that discussion, we had time to finish up the page 300 assignment, or work on reviews at the back of the notes package to prepare for Friday's test. As part of the review process, I handed out a Radical Problems and Applications worksheet for you to try (here is the key).

Then we continued through lesson 2.1.1 in the in the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. The assignment for this section is textbook page 83 #1-7,9,15-17, 20. I'll give you until Monday to get this assignment done (and finish up the Right Angle Trigonometry Review (here is the key).
Wednesday Sept 17: R9 and R10 TEST. If you finish with time to spare, I handed out this Right Angle Trigonometry Review (here is the key) that you can work on. If you need some refreshers on how to do the trig, don't panic - we'll review that in tomorrow's lesson.
Tuesday Sept 16: Tuesday Sept 16: we went over a few 1.5 homework problems. Then we did the 1.5 Mini Quiz. Then I gave the class some time to work on the reviews that I handed out yesterday. If you blaze through those and want more practice, go to the Review and Practice test pages at the end of Chapter 1 in the textbook. There's plenty of practice questions in there. Here (finally) is the answer key for the Number Sequence Activity. If you want to see a video about the See-and-say sequence, here it is. Test tomorrow.
Monday Sept 15: we went back to lesson 1.4 in the Sequences and Series booklet to go through how to read sigma notation, then jumped back to lesson 1.5 and finished the two examples that we didn't go through on Friday. Then I gave the class some time to finish up the 1.5 assignment from Friday, or work on these handouts: a Chapter 1 Skill Practice Review and a Chapter 1 Word Problem Review. The files linked here have answer keys, but there are a couple of errors: on the Chapter 1 Skill Practice Review: #2c, should read: " #9a should be 1400, #13a should be -7174454. #13b is NOT a bad question, it fits on my calculator just fine and the answer rounds nicely to 125. Chapter 1 Word Problem Review: #7 should be $12564.89 (if you call $1000 T1, then you are solving for t11). We spent a few munutes at the end of class looking at the biggest controversy in math over the last 20 years or so.
Friday Sept 12: we went over some of the page 53 homework problems, then we did the 1.4 Mini-Quiz. Then we did the 1.5 Lesson in the Sequences and Series booklet. This included a discussion of Zeno's Paradox. The assignment for this section is textbook page 63 #1-5-8,11, 12, 14, 15 , 19, 20. This should be finished for Monday, but I'll give you 20 minutes or so of class time to work.
Thursday Sept 11: Then we went over some problems from the page 39 assignment from yesterday, then we did the the 1.3 Mini-Quiz. Then we had some time to work on page 53 #1-6, 8,10,11,13,15-19. If you don't finish the questions in class, finish it tonight for homework.
Wednesday Sept 10: we did the 1.2 Mini Quiz. Then I gave the class some time to work on yesterday's page 1.3 homework on textbook page 39 #1-10, 12, 13, 18, 20, 22, 23, 26, 27. Then we did the brief lesson for the 1.4 section of the Sequences and Series booklet. If you finish the page 39 assignment and want to work ahead, the 1.4 assignment is page 53 #1-6, 8,10,11,13,15-19. I'll assign it officially tomorrow.
Tuesday Sept 9: we started with the 1.1 Mini Quiz from the booklet I handed out today of Chapter 1 Mini Quizzes. Please DON'T do the rest of those quizzes for homework! They are meant to be done in class as practice for the upcomming test. If you missed class and want to do it yourself, the answer key is at the end of the file link. Then we did the 1.3 lesson in the Sequences and Series booklet. The assignment for this section is textbook page 39 #1-10, 12, 13, 18, 20, 22, 23, 26, 27. I'll give you some more class time for this assignment tomorrow. For anyone who is breezing through this stuff and is saying to themselves, "hey, I signed up for honours math because I wanted a challenge" - I have just the thing for you: I handed out a Number Sequence Activity. I won't hand out an answer key for it until Monday in case you want to try to solve some of it over the weekend. I don't expect anyone to solve all of these questions! Think of it as a challenge or puzzle - NOT as curricular expectations! If you enjoy this sort of challenge, you'll love participating in the math contests this year!
Monday Sept 8: we checked to see if anyone had any other issues with the Grade 10 Skill Review. Today is the last time we'll go over the old skills in class, so after today, if you are still struggling with these skills, you should consider coming in over noon hours to do some remedial work so you can be successful in this course going forward. After that we checked in to see if anyone was stuck on any of the page 16 homework questions that I assigned on Friday, we will do a practice quiz on this lesson tomorrow. Then we went through Lesson 1.2 in the Sequences and Series booklet. The homework is textbook page 27 #1-7, 9,10,12,14,16,19,23. I'll give you some time in class to work on this tomorrow.
Friday Sept 5: We finished our look at the course outline and I fielded a few more questions about the question on the grade 10 skill review sheet, then we looked at Lesson 1.1 in the Sequences and Series booklet. The homework for Monday is textbook page 16 #1-11,15,19,21,24,25. Also, Monday will be the last time I use class time to help you understand how to do the material on the grade 10 skill review sheet, so make sure you have tried it all by then.
Thursday Sept 4: Welcome to Honours Pre-Calculus! Here is the course outline and an overview of the curriculum. Here is a Grade 10 Skill Review, just to refresh some skills while I hand out your first notes package, the Sequences and Series booklet, as well as your textbook. The questions on the Grade 10 Skill Review should be things you already know how to do, but don't panic if you need a little bit of refresher on those skills (definitely panic and run, don't walk to your counselor if you can't do any of it!). If you want to work on it some more tonight, great - but if you want to finish it up over the weekend, we'll go over it on Monday.
