SLOT 1B - MCI45S - INTRODUCTION TO CALCULUS
Thursday June 13: Officially, I can't NOT do attendance, but yeah.. our course is done. All I am doing today is handing back your Unit D tests. I will still have to take attendance. If you have to be here anyway, bring some exam review material from another course to work on. If the parental units are cool with the attendance phone call, have a sleep-in. If you decide to not come, you have until the end of the exam week to come and pick up your Unit D tests from me before they hit the recycle bin.
It has been a pleasure being the teacher who introduced you to calculus! Have a great summer! Neil gets the last word.
Wednesday June 12: UNIT D TEST PART 2. I also handed out CUSR forms for the report card. If you don't remember doing this for the last report card, watch this video and send me your CUSR choices on Edsby. If I don't hear from you by the end of the week, I will just use the same ones from the last report card (unless, of course, I feel like they need changing).
Tuesday June 11: work/study time for the Unit D Part 2 Test tomorrow.
Monday June 10: UNIT D TEST PART 1
Friday June 7: work/review time for the 5.5 assignment. Test Monday (Part 1) and then you get another study/work period on Tuesday and we finish the test on Wednesday.
Thursday June 6: we went over the Putting it All Together examples booklet. The 2nd day of next week's test will look a lot like this. Here is the key, if you missed the class and want to go over them yourself.
Tuesday June 4-Wednesday June 5: work time for 5.4. 5.1, 5.2, 5.5. I handed out a Putting it All Together examples booklet that you can try. We'll go over them together Thursday and Friday.
Monday June 3: we went over a couple questions from the 5.3 assignment together. You should now be working on 5.5 #1-12 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook or catch up on 5.4, 5.1 and 5.2.
Friday May 31: We looked at the very last lesson in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet, odd and even functions for a few minutes, then we looked at the "putting it all together " page at the end of the booklet. Then we had some time to work on 5.1 #1-3 and 5.2 #1-4.
Thursday May 30: today we did the Vertical Asymptotes lesson on pages 24-26 in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet . The assignment for this section is 5.2 #1-4 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook. If you missed today's class, here is the video of the lesson .
Wednesday May 29: today we did the Vertical Asymptotes lesson on pages 22-23 in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet . The assignment for this section is 5.1 #1-3 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook. If you missed today's class, here is the video of the lesson.
Tuesday May 28: we went through the lesson on the Second Derivative Test on pages 18-19 in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet . This is a quicker way to find local max and min than the interval analysis that we learned earlier in this unit, but be warned, it does fail sometimes. Here is the video of the lesson. The assignment for this section is 5.4 #1-3 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook.
Monday May 27: we finished up example 2 on page 11 of the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet. Then we went through pages 16-17. If you missed class today, the video for page 11 is part of the video I posted on Friday. Here is the video for pages 16-17. The assignment is still 5.3 #1-3.
Friday May 24: we finished example 3 on page 15 of the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet. The recording for this part of the lesson is from the 18:25 mark to the end of this video. The Desmos file I was using is here. After that we went back to pages 10-11 in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet and went through example 1 and started example 2. You can try to finish that example 2 for yourself, but I'll wrap it up on Monday. Here is the video for pages 10-11. You should now be able to do all of assignment 5.3 #1-3.
Thursday May 23: work period to catch up on the 4.1-4,3 assignments. If you have already finished the 4.1-4.3 assignments, the assignment for the lesson we started yesterday is 5.3 #1-3 (page 10) of the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook (we're skipping over 5.1 and 5.2) for now. Don't panic if you get a little stuck on some of these. Friday's examples will help you with some of the tougher questions.
Wednesday May 22: we went through example 2 in the handout, First Derivative Test More Examples. If you missed the class, this part of the lesson is recorded from the 10:50 mark to the end of this video. Then we went back to the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet, but the pages are in a slightly incorrect order, so we jumped to the "Concavity and Points of Inflection" lesson on pages 12-14 and did the first two examples. The video for this part of the lesson is up to the 18:25 mark here. Tomorrow, I'll give you a work class to catch up on 4.1-4.3 homework.
Tuesday May 21: we went through the 3rd Lesson in he Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet, on pages 8-9: the first derivative test. This video (from 14:30 to the end) covers this part of the lesson. Then I supplemented the notes booklet with the handout, First Derivative Test More Examples and we went through example 1. This part of the lesson is the first 10:50 of this video. The next assignment is 4.3 #1-2 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook. Here is the Desmos file I used in class today.
Friday May 17: I went through 4.1 #4g, so the class could see a non-polynomial-function example and talked a little bit about "curve sketching" in general. I recorded the class for you band folks - just click the link. Then it was work/ask questions time to catch up on 4.1 #1-5, 4.2 #1-7 and 4.3 #1-2 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook. No new lesson today. Have a great long weekend!
Thursday May 16: we finished the second half of Unit D, lesson 2: Maximum and Minimum Values, Fermat's Theorem, and Critical Values, covering the examples on pages 6- 8, and the first example on page 9 in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet. Wednesday May 15: we started Unit D lesson 2: Maximum and Minimum Values, Fermat's Theorem, and Critical Values, which is pages 4-6 in the Unit D - Curve Sketching Notes Booklet. We'll need tomorrow's class to finish this lesson's last two examples, but if you are ready to move on, you can start work on 4.2 #1-7 in the Chapter D - Curve Sketching Workbook. RELATED RATES TEST FRIDAY MAY 10
Thursday May 9: I went over the Related Rate and an Antiderivative Challenge problem (here is the answer key) and then I went over a few questions from #2-8 on the Extention: Antiderivatives page in the Unit C Assignment Book.
Wednesday May 8: today's class was a chance to ask for help with the related rate problems and otherwise, it was a chance to catch up on work or try this sheet with a Related Rate and an Antiderivative Challenge problem (here is the answer key). I'll go over it tomorrow.
Tuesday May 7: we introduced the concept of the Antiderivative today, with the lesson on pages 29-32 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. Here is a video of the lesson. Monday May 6: After checking in to see if anyone was stuck on anything on the related rates worksheet, I handed out a booklet with 3 more examples (the file here has a key) and gave people the rest of the class to try them. If you finish those and want a few more related rate problems to try, there are some on pages 12-13 of the Unit C Assignment Book. Specifically, you can try #5,6,8,9,10.
Friday May 3: we went over a couple more examples of related rate problems (Examples 4 and 5 in the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. If you missed the class Example 4 (1st strategy) is in this video of the class (start at the 20:44 mark) and this video covers the 2nd strategy for Example 4 as well as Example 5. Thursday May 2: we started the lesson on Related Rates today, going through Examples 0,1,2, and 3 on pages 22-24 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. Here is a video of the lesson that goes up to Example 2. Example 3 starts at the 11:20 mark of this video. We will continue from there tomorrow. If you want to play with the animations and graphs that I used in today's lesson, here is the pond ripple (and here is a video of the phenomenon in real life), here is the expanding rectangle, and here is the falling ladder. I handed out the related rates worksheet. We aren't finished all of the examples yet, but specifically, you can try #5,7,11,12,13,15,17. You'll be able to do the rest after tomorrow's examples. Friday April 26: we found the domain and range for the ellipse on page 18, then we went through more implicit differentiation examples today from pages 19-21 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. This lesson looked at some fun curves with weird equations and weirder graphs. Here is a video of the lesson. The assignment is still 2.7 #1-7 in the Unit C Assignment Book. I also handed out this Implicit Differentiation Worksheet. Here is the Desmos file of today's graphs if you want to play with them for yourself.
Thursday April 25: we started by looking more closely at the sorts of applications we can do with the derivative we found in the last example from yesterday's lesson. Here is the Desmos file of the graphs I used in class. Then I did this example of another geometry problem that requires implicit differentiation to solve. You can now do all of the assignment 2.7 #1-7 in the Unit C Assignment Book.
Wednesday April 24: today was the 2nd part of the Implicit Differentiation lesson, where we use chain rule and Leibniz logic to find the derivative of a curve where we don't (or can't) isolate the y variable. This covers pages 16-18 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. We didn't quite finish today's lesson due to the fire drill, so we'll continue it tomorrow. After the last example, I left the class with the question: "what is the domain and range of that ellipse?" - give it a try and we'll solve that together on Friday For homework, if you alreadt worked through do #1a part i on page 14 (2.7), you can start the rest of the assignment 2.7 #1-7 in the Unit C Assignment Book, but don't panic if you get stuck, we still have a few examples to show you. UNIT C TEST 1 - CHAIN RULE (2.6) - TUESDAY APRIL 23
Monday April 22: Today we did a lesson on pages 13-14 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. This lesson focuses on equations where the variable we're trying to find the rate of change of, isn't explicitly defined (it isn't isolated). There isn't a lot of new homework for this concept yet, but you can do #1a part i on page 14 (2.7) of the Unit C Assignment Book and then spend on more night getting ready for tomorrow's chain rule test. Here is the video of the lesson in case you missed today's class, and here is the Desmos file I was using in that lesson.
Thursday April 18: one more period to ask questions and/or finish up 2.6 #1-10,12 and the Chain Rule Worksheet (the file link here has the answer key at the back).
Wednesday April 17: today we started by finishing Example #4 from yesterday's lesson. Then we had work time for 2.6 #1-11,12 from the Unit C Assignment Book. Tuesday April 16: today's lesson covers pages 9- 12 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. This extends the Chain Rule to include the Product and Quotient Rules. After today's examples, you can now do 2.6 #6 of the Unit C Assignment Book. We didn't quite get to finish Example #4 in the lesson - we'll start with that one tomorrow. Monday April 15: Today we looked at chain rule again today, but this time we used the Leibniz Notation to go through the examples on pages 6-8 of the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. If you missed the class here is a video of the lesson (watch out for the error on example 3). You can now add the following 2.6 questions in the Unit C Assignment Book to yesterday's assignment: #2-5,12.
Friday April 12: we used today as an ask questions and get caught up class for Unit C Assignment Book page 9 #1-6,7, 16-18 and 2.6 page 1 #1,7-10.
Thursday April 11: we went through lesson 2, Chain Rule in the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook today. Wednesday April 10: we started our next unit by handing out the Unit C: Chain Rule and Implicit Differentiation Notebook. We started Unit C, with a lesson on Composite Functions. Your assignment is #1-6,7, 16-18 on page 9 of the Unit C Assignment Book.

Friday April 5: PRODUCT AND QUOTIENT LAW TEST (2.4 and 2.5)
Thursday April 4: after finishing up the last parts of example 2 from yesterday, it was work and ask questions time if there are any lingering issues with the 2.4 and 2.5 assignments (we test those 2 sections tomorrow). Reminder that there are extra practice questions for these two section on page 28 #29,30, page 29 #1-4, page 32 #1,2. If you are all set with that stuff you can work on the 2.8, 3.1 and 3.2 homework.
Wednesday April 3: This class we did our last new lesson of the Derivatives unit, Velocity and Acceleration. This covers pages 27-31 in the Unit B: Derivatives Notes Book. WEDNESDAY MARCH 20: 2.1 and 2.2 TEST (First Principles, Graphing, and Basic Derivatives)
Tuesday March 19: we started the lesson on the Product Rule for derivatives, starting on page 17 of the Unit B: Derivatives Notes Book. If you missed the class or want to see the examples again, here is the video. Your next assignment is from the Chapter 2 Derivatives workbooklet: a little more basic derivative practice 2.3 #1-3,6-10,12,13. If you are ready to move on to try practicing today's material, the product rule questions are 2.4 #1-6. Reminder that tomorrow we will test 2.1,2.2 and the Graphs of Derivatives Worksheets (here is the answer key). Make sure you are also done the Graphs of Derivatives Worksheets (here is the answer key) from last week, and the 2.2 assignment from Thursday, since we test on this material on Wednesday. Thursday March 14: today's lesson on Basic Derivative Rules covers pages 12-14 in the Unit B: Derivatives Notes Book, This is a key class, so if you missed any of it (or want to watch it again) here is the video (today's lesson starts at the 4:30 mark). The homework for this lesson is 2.2 #1-11 in Chapter 2 Derivatives Workbook.
Wednesday March 13: we went over pages 9-11 of the Unit B: Derivatives Notes Book, covering the lesson, Derivatives-Other Notations. The video for today's lesson is the first 4:30 of this video. For homework, keep working on 2.1 #2,4-6,8-13,16 in the Chapter 2 Derivatives Workbook and the Graphs of Derivatives Worksheets (here is the answer key). If you are interested learning more of the history of the development of calculus and the feud between Lebniz and Sir Isaac Newton, check out this video. This was only a few minutes of lesson, so the rest of the class was to work on 2.1 #2, 4-6, 8, 10, 11 and 13 in the Chapter 2 Derivatives Workbook and the Graphs of Derivatives Worksheets.
Tuesday March 12: today's lesson is a continuation of yesterday's look at derivatives. Today we explore the relationship between the graph of a function and the graph of its derivative function, covering pages 5-8 of the Unit B: Derivatives Notes Book. Here is my key for the last page of examples in today's lesson (I already don't like my estimate for the first one - I made it too steep). Here is the Desmos file of the examples on pages 5-8, if you want to play with them for yourself. You can now add 2.1 #2 and 13 in the Chapter 2 Derivatives Workbook to the assignment from yesterday and this Graphs of Derivatives Worksheets that I handed out today (here is the answer key). Monday March 4: we did a lesson on pages 38-39 of Unit A: Limits Notes Package where we go from Formula 2 to a general equation for the slope of a tangent for any specific curve. Here is the video for today's class (it starts at the 15:00 mark). Then we did a quick refresher of Zeno's Paradox and sums of infinite geometric sequences. There is no new assignment for this lesson, so you have another night to work at the 1.4 assignment (in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Changes booklet) #1,2,6-11 and, if you are looking for more practice, page 24 #3-6. Friday March 1: we had some work time for 1.4 #1,2,6-11 in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Changes booklet. If you have already finished that and want more practice, go to page 24 #3-6.
CHAPTER 1.2 and 1.3 TEST THURSDAY FEB 29 - if you finish early, work on 1.4 #1,2,6-11. I'll give you some work time tomorrow for this assignment.
Wednesday Feb 28: today is part 2 of the Chapter 1.4 lesson, where we introduce "Formula 2" for finding the slope of a tangent line using limits. This covers pages 34-37 in the Unit A: Limits Notes Package. For the people writing the math contest (or anyone else who wants to see the lesson again): Here is the video of the lesson. Your homework for this part of the lesson is Exercise 1.4 #1a(ii), #2a(ii), #8-11 (use Formula 2 for all of these) in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Changes booklet. Tomorrow is the test day for 1.2 and 1.3, and we'll use Friday as a work/help period for this assignment and the one from yesterday, so you have a few nights to work at the 1.4 homework.
Tuesday Feb 27: we finished up the Formula 1 lesson with examples 2 and 3 from pages 32-33 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package. Today's lesson video starts at the 12:00 minute mark of this video. We also did one more continuity problem on page 40 of the notes package to get ready for Thursday's test. Like I posted yesterday, until we finish tomorrow's lesson on Formula 2, you can't do all of the 1.4 assignment, but if you feel ready for the 1.2-1.3 test coming up on Thursday and you want to get ahead on the 1.4 homework, you can try Exercise 1.4 #1a(i),b,c, #2a(i),b,c, #6-7 in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Changes booklet right now.
Monday Feb 26: we started our two part (three class) lesson on the Equation of tangent lines with the lesson that derives and gives us examples of "Formula 1". This took us through pages 30-31 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package. Friday Feb 23: Today we do examples 2-4 in the lesson on Continuity. We're still, technically in Lesson 1.3 of your workbook, covering pages 27-29 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package. Tuesday Feb 21: we went over the "you try" questions on page 22 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package and then some questions from Exercise 1.2 #1-9,12 in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Changes booklet . Then we worked on the Limit Practice handout that I handed out today (here is the answer key). First test is Thursday.
Friday Feb 16: we moved on to the examples on pages 20-21 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package and we left the three "you try" examples on page 22 for you to bring in for Tuesday. Thursday Feb 15: we went over the "Secant Example for you to Try" sheet on page 15 of the booklet, then we moved on to pages 16-19 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package and examples of "Limit Laws" as we moved on to more algebraic ways to calculate limits. The next assignment will be Exercise 1.2 #1-9,12 in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Change Workbook. You might not be ready for all of these problems until after tomorrow's examples. Wednesday Feb 14: We did Examples 2 and 3 on pages 12-14 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package together. Tuesday Feb 13: After wrapping up the discussion on functions and function notation that we started with my guest teacher on Friday (looking at the last problem on the Grade 11 Skills Review). we did the lesson on pages 9-11 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package together. The assignment for this lesson is Exercise 1.1 #1-5,7-10 in the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Change Workbook. The answer key starts on page 16. This assignment is meant to be done after we finish the entire lesson (up to page 14) so don't panic if you can't do it all just yet. Monday Feb 12: today's lesson is on this handout: Limits: An Introduction. We looked at two very important ideas in calculus: 1) you can say that if you are infinitely close to a value, you actually have that value and 2) you can find the size of something finite by spliting into infinite pieces and then counting them. If you missed today's class I have a video here. There is no new assignment for today's lesson, so if you need to finish the Grade 11 Skills Review (here is the answer key), you have one more night.
Friday Feb 9: my guest teacher went through some examples of simplifying rational and radical expressions, and reviewed function notation, using examples from pages 11-21 of the Grade 11 Skills Review booklet. That brings us to the end of our skill review section. On Monday, we start Calculus! You can use the weekend as the last chance to make sure you can do everything in the Grade 11 Skills Review booklet (here is the answer key).
Thursday Feb 8: my guest teacher introduced you to the factor theorem and the integral zero theorem on page 4 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package . Then she went over the cubic factoring examples on pages 5-7. Again, the only homework is to keep working on the Grade 11 Skills Review booklet (you should be able to do the whole thing now, but we'll review rational and radical expressions and function notation tomorrow). Here is the answer key for the entire booklet.
Wednesday Feb 7: I handed out these notes and introduced polynomial long division, which is a skill that pops up a few times in this course. Then we went back to pages 2-3 of the Unit A: Limits Notes Package to learn how to simplify the long division process into something we call synthetic division. If you want to play with the graphs that I used in class, here is the Desmos file. Tonight you can keep working on the Grade 11 Skills Review booklet (we'll show you how to do #7 tomorrow). Tuesday Feb 6: we continued our quick review of grades 10 and 11 factoring, then we jumped to page 8 in the Unit A: Limits Notes Package to learn how to factor a sum and difference of cubes. You can now try everything except #7 in the Grade 11 Skills Review booklet. Your only other homework is to watch this Professor Dave video introducing the concept of what calculus actually is. For anyone interested, here is an information sheet about upcoming math contests.
Monday February 5: Welcome to Introduction to Calculus! Today we went over the course outline, but didn't get very far into anything mathematical just yet. We'll start our first proper lesson tomorrow. Until then, I have handed out the Grade 11 Skills Review. You can get started on this tonight (here is the answer key), but if you get stuck on a few things here and there, don't panic! - I'll be giving you some refresher hints as we go. If you are stuck, feel free to google things like "factor theorem" or "factoring sum of cubes" and see if you can get ahead of me. On the other hand, it is probably fair to say, that if you sit down and find that you can't do any of this review on your own, you have signed up for the wrong course, and you aren't ready for Calculus right now. I also handed out our Unit A: Limits Notes Package and the Chapter 1: Limits and Rates of Change Workbook but we won't start using them until next week.

Tuesday June 11: Time to work on Exam review or go over old tests. Reminder that if I don't get the Re-Test Intent Form returned by the end of the day tomorrow, I will assume that you don't want to re-test anything on Wednesday. Also in this class, I need your CUSR data for the report card. If you missed today's class, watch this video and send me your CUSR choices on Edsby. If I don't hear from you by the end of class on Thursday, I will just use the same ones from the last report card (unless, of course, I feel like they need changing).
CHAPTER 1 TEST MONDAY JUNE 10. Reminder that if I don't get the Re-Test Intent Form returned by the end of the day on Tuesday, I will assume that you don't want to re-test anything on Wednesday.
Friday June 7: review class to work on the Chapter 1 Review booklet. You can ignore the last two pages, they're from back in the days when students used to have to memorize formulas. You will get this formula sheet for this test (and the re-test, and the exam). Here is the answer key for the review. The Chapter 1 test is Monday. If you are looking for extra review this weekend, we never got to finish up the ACC booklet. We did the 1.1-1.3 ACC last Monday, so see that update for the key. Here are the keys for 1.4, and 1.5, and here's 1.6-1.7, and 1.7. Also, I handed out the Re-Test Intent Form today. You can hang on to it until the end of the day on Tuesday (so that you can decide if there is anything you want to re-test from Monday's Chapter 1 test), but if I don't get this returned by the end of the day on Tuesday, I will assume that you don't want to re-test anything.
Thursday June 6: we went over Example #9 in lesson 1.5 of the Chapter 1: Measurement Notebook, then we did the 1.6 lesson on surface area and volumes of spheres and the 1.7 lesson on composite shapes. Here is the video of the 1.6 Lesson if you missed class today and here is the video for lesson 1.7. Wednesday June 5: We did the 1.5 Lesson in the Chapter 1: Measurement Notebook on Volume today. Here is a video of today's lesson. I left the last example (#9) for you to try on your own - we'll go over it tomorrow. Your homework is page 42 #4,6,8,9,11,15,18. If you want a nice visual way to look at why the volume of a pyramid is 1/3 of the volume of a prism with the same base and height check out this video.
Tuesday June 4: we lose this class to the Awards Day ceremony. You should be working on texbook page 34 #7-10, 12,13,16 tonight.
Monday June 3: we went through a few questions from the page 22 textbook assignment, then we did a 1.1-1.3 ACC. Then we continued into Surface area of pyramids, going through the second part of the 1.4 notes on pages 11-13 in the Chapter 1: Measurement Notebook. Friday May 31: we started the class with a challenge problem and then watched this video. Then we continued into Surface area, going through the prism, cylinder, and cone examples on pages 8-10 of the Chapter 1: Measurement Notebook. Thursday May 16: we jumped over the first couple of pages of the 4.6 lesson in the Chapter 4: Roots and Powers Notes Booklet (the booklet is sort of in the wrong order here) and went through the page that formally reviews all of the power laws you learned in grade 9. Then we went back and went through Lesson 4.6. If you missed class today, the lesson is covered in two videos: start at the 10:30 mark of this one and then all of this one. The assignment for 4.6 is textbook page 241 #3,5,6,8,16,19,21,22. You can have tomorrow's class as mostly work time for this assignment and yesterday's page 233 #2-9,13.
Wednesday May 15: we started by going over some page 227 questions together, then we did this ACC for 4.4 (the answer key is in this file). Wednesday May 1: we started with 20 minutes to work on the textbook questions from yesterday, then we wrapped up the Chapter 7 Systems of Linear Equations Notes Booklet today, with a lesson on how to solve systems of equations with fractions. Monday April 29: After some work time for the textbook assignments from Friday, we went over a few questions together, then we did this 7.4 and 7.5 ACC.
Friday April 26: It's time to move on to solving systems of equations purely algebraically. We went through lessons 7.4 and 7.5 in the Chapter 7 Systems of Linear Equations Notes Booklet. The homework for this section is textbook page 425 #4,5 and page 437 #3,6,7. I'll give you some more time to work on these on Monday. Also in this class, I handed out this intention form. Monday April 1: we started with this Domain and Range ACC (if you missed today's class, download it, try it, then check your answers against this key). Then we went over the last question in the 5.5 Lesson in the Chapter 5 Relations and Functions notes booklet. After that a few questions from the page 294 assignment. If you missed today's class, here is a video of me going over #14,16,19,21 from the page 294 assignment, including a quick tutorial on using desmos to make charts and graphs. No new assignment, so if you didn't finish the page 294 assignment from last Friday, you can do that tonight.
Friday March 22: we started class with ACC 5.2. If you missed class today, download it and check your answers against this answer key. After that, we finished the notes and examples for the rest of the 5.5 lesson in the Chapter 5 Relations and Functions notes booklet (well, we finished all but the very last example). The assignment for this section is page 294 #4-9,12-14,16,17,19-21. Have a great spring break!
Thursday March 21: we went over a couple of page 281 questions, then we did ACC 5.1-5.2. If you missed class, download it, give it a try, then check out the answer key. Then we did the first page of the notes and examples for Chapter 5.5 in the Chapter 5 Relations and Functions notes booklet. Wednesday March 20: We finished up the 5.3 lesson in the Chapter 5 Relations and Functions notes booklet. The new assignment is page 281 #4,5,7,9,11.
Tuesday March 19: We went over a few page 270 questions, then we went through the second half of the 5.2 lesson and the first half of the 5.3 lesson in the Chapter 5 Relations and Functions notes booklet. No new assignment until we finish lesson 5.3 tomorrow.
Monday March 18: we went over a couple of page 262 questions, then we went through the 5.2 notes together. For anyone who missed the class, here is a video of the lesson. The 5.2 assignment is page 270 #4,5,9,11,13.
Thursday March 14: we went through the rest of the 5.1 notes in the Chapter 5 Relations and Functions notes booklet. The assignment is textbook page 262 #3,4,6,13,14. We spent a few minutes today playing with some interesting patterns/relations, including the Collatz Conjecture. Have a great weekend.
WEDNESDAY MARCH 13 - TEST 3: Trigonometry. After everyone was finished we went through the first page of the 5.1 notes in the Chapter 5 Notebook. No new assignment tonight.
Tuesday March 12: we went over a few questions from the page 118 assignment, then we did a 2.7 ACC (the file link has a key). Then we had time to work on the Chapter 2 Review that I handed out yesterday and you want more practice, here is an Extra Review that you can download and work on.
Monday March 11: we started with the 2.6 ACC (the file link has a key) then we had a little more time to finish up page 118 #3,5-9,11,12,16,17,19. If you are already finished all of that you can start on this Chapter 2 Review
Friday Mar 8: we started by going over some page 111 problems. Then we finished up the lesson 2.7 examples in your Trigonometry Notebook. Then we had time to work on page 118 #3,5-9,11,12,16,17,19 (notice that I added some new questions).
Thursday Mar 7: we went over a few page 101 questions together. Then we did the 2.1-2.5A ACC (practice quiz) (it's the front side of the one we did on Tuesday). Then we did the first two examples of lesson 2.7 in your Trigonometry Notebook. Then we had time to work on the page 111 #6-16 assignment. It needs to be done for tomorrow. If anyone is ready to move on, the next assignment will start with page 118 #3,5,6 - I'll add more to that after tomorrow's examples.
WEDNESDAY MAR 6: A5 (FACTORING) RE-TEST. Once you are done the test you can have work time to finish up the page 101 #3-6, 8-10, 13 assginment or get started on the page 111 #6-16 assignment. Page 101 should be done for tomorrow.
Tuesday March 5: we started with a 2.1-2.5B ACC (practice quiz) (the file link has the key - also note that it is the second quiz in the file). Then we went over the 2.6- Applying Trig Ratios examples in the Trigonometry Notebook. Then it was time to work on the page 101 #3-6, 8-10, 13 assginment from yesterday (or work on some factoring practice). Reminder that we're re-testing the A5 outcome tomorrow, so if you want more practice, here is a reminder that I handed out this factoring maze (here is the key) or this factoring puzzle (here is the key) after the test last week. Also, you can download this Factoring Practice booklet. If you are finished all of that, you can work on textbook page 111 #6-16.
Monday March 4: after another quick look at your notebooks while people worked on the A5 practice quiz. I wanted to go back to this just see if you have maintained (or improved on) the skills we're retesting Wednesday (here is the key if you missed class and want to mark it for yourself). . Then we went over a couple of homework questions before going through the Lesson 2.4-2.5: The Sine and Cosine Ratio - Calculating Side Length in the Trigonometry Notebook. The assignment for this section is textbook page 101 #3-6, 8-10, 13. Start working on it tonight, but you will get some work time for it tomorrow.
Friday Mar 1: We finished up the notes and examples for lesson 2.1-2.4: Tan, Sin, and Cos - Calculating Angles in the Trigonometry Notebook. The assignment for this section is textbook page 95 #6-14. I'll probably want to have a look at your work again on Monday - I might take a peek at your notes too.
Thursday Feb 29: we went over a few questions from the page 75 and 82 assignments together, then we did an activity from page 90 of the textbook. Then we did started the notes and examples for lesson 2.1-2.4: Tan, Sin, and Cos - Calculating Angles in the Trigonometry Notebook. We didn't get very far, so no new assignment tonight, which gives some people time to finish up the Page 75 and 82 assignments (a LOT of people need to spend more time on this!)
Wednesday Feb 28: we did a couple more tangent examples together, then we had time to work on textbook Page 75 #3-5,8,10,11,14,19,23 and page 82 #3-5,7-10,16.
Tuesday Feb 27: we did lesson 2.1-2.2 in the Trigonometry Notebook today. Your assignment is textbook Page 75 #3-5,8,10,11,14,19,23 and page 82 #3-5,7-10,16. We had a bit of work time towards the end of class today. You will have work time tomorrow and these pages will be due Thursday. Reminder that we are going to re-test factoring (A5) next Wednesday. I'm not going to spend class lesson time reviewing this concept, so you are on your own to review it yourself. I'm not going to hand out hard copies of that booklet.
Monday Feb 26: we started the Trigonometry Notebook today. We reviewed all of the triangle and algebra skills you should already have from junior high (and elementary) in order to be successful in this unit. No homework for this lesson yet. If you don't already have one GET A SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR for Monday's lesson. You will NEED it.

Thursday Feb 22: we started with a 3.6 and 3.8 Mini Quiz (ACC), then we had some time to work on the Chapter 3 Review (the answer key is here), or the individual outcome reviews: the A1 Review (chapters 3.1 and 3.2), the A4 review (the multiplying questions in 3.3-3.8) and the A5 Review (the factoring questions in 3.3-3.8). All of these reviews have answer keys in the files.
Wednesday Feb 21: today's class starts with the 3.3-3.5 AGAIN ACC, then we had some time to finish up page 194 #4-6,8,10,11, 15,17,20,21. Then we went over a few of the questions together. I handed out a Chapter 3 Review (the answer key is here). Test 1 is Friday. If this isn't enough review for you, I have reviews specific to the outcomes that I also handed out today: an A1 Review (chapters 3.1 and 3.2), an A4 review (the multiplying questions in 3.3-3.8) and an A5 Review (the factoring questions in 3.3-3.8). All of these reviews have answer keys in the files.
Tuesday Feb 20: we went over a few questions from the page 177 assignment from Friday. Then we went through lesson 3.8: Special Polynomials in the Chapter 3: Factoring Booklet. The textbook assignment for this lesson is page 194 #4-6,8,10,11, 15,17,20,21. I'll give you some work time tomorrow to finish this assignment up.
Friday Feb 16: we went over some questions from textbook page 166, then we did a 3.3-3.5 mini-quiz (ACC) , then went back to finish up Lesson 3.6 of the Chapter 3: Factoring Booklet. The new assignment is page 177 #10, 14, 15, 18, 19. Have a great weekend!
Thursday Feb 15: we started with a new example where we factor by making retangles on this algebra tile app, then we started the examples for Lesson 3.6 of the Chapter 3: Factoring Booklet. Then we had some work time for page 166 #5,7,8a,8c,9-12,14,15,17,19-21,23.
Wednesday Feb 14: we finished up the last example in section 3.5 of the Chapter 3: Factoring Booklet, then we started playing with this algebra tile app, before we were called down for the MITT presentation. Tonight, you should keep working on the assignment from yesterday: page 166 #5,7,8a,8c,9-12,14,15,17,19-21,23. I'll give you some more work time tomorrow.
Tuesday February 13: we started with another look at multiplying (and squaring) binomials. We started with this vitrual algebra tile app on Desmos, then we moved to looking at reversing the process and factoring trinomials back into binomial factors. Then we went back to paper an pencil and did the examples in section 3.5 of the Chapter 3: Factoring Booklet. Your assignment is textbook page 166 #5,7,8a,8c,9-12,14,15,17,19-21,23. For this assignment, you can ignore the instructions to draw rectangles or algebra tiles and just stick to the algebra. This is a larger assignment, so we'll have some work time tomorrow and it should be done for Thursday.
Monday February 12: I went over a few questions from the pages 177 and 186 assignments, focusing on some shortcuts for multiplying out (expanding) binomials and I went back to #18 on the page 147 assignment for a cool story. Then we did our first ACC (Accountability Check) for sections 3.1,3.2, and 3.7 (here is the key). These are not for marks, but they are a great predictor of how you would do on these outcomes on the upcoming test. If you can't do the ACC questions, you are not keeping up with the pace of the course. After the ACC we played a game called "Find Two Numbers". There's no new assignment tonight, so if the ACCs didn't go well for you, take the time tonight to review the notes, catch up on homework from last week that you didn't try, and maybe watch a few lesson videos.
Friday February 9: My guest teacher went over a couple of questions from yesterday's homework. Then she did the notes and examples for Lesson 3.7 (Outcome A4): Multiplying Polynomials in the Chapter 3: Factoring Booklet. Your homework for the weekend is page 177 #9,10 and page 186 #5

Monday February 5: Welcome to Introduction to Applied and Pre-Calculus Math! Here is a course outline. We did the first page of the first lesson in the first notes booklet: Chapter 3: Factoring. Then I handed out a little junior high skill review booklet, called What Do You Remember to get things started while I assigned textbooks. Tomorrow we will finish that first lesson and we will have our first textbook assignment. For tonight, see if you can finish the What Do You Remember? sheet. Monday June 10: Time to work on the exam review, or to go over old tests. I handed back Friday's test, then I handed out this re-test selection sheet. If I don't receive this form back from you by the end of class today, I assume you are not re-testing any outcomes on Wednesday. Also in this class, I need your CUSR data for the report card. If I don't hear from you by the end of class on Thursday, I will just use the same ones from the last report card (unless, of course, I feel like they need changing).

Thursday June 6: I handed out this Chapter 8 & 9 Practice test (here is the answer key) that you can work on in class today. If you finish that and you are looking for more review, go to textbook: pages 457-460 for chapter 8 and pages 501-505 for chapter 9. We didn't focus on word problems in this unit, so if you are doing the textbook reviews, you can skip those (there won't be any on the test).
Wednesday June 5: after some work time, we went over some questions from pages 14 to 26 in the Chapter 9: Inequalities Notes Booklet. Then I handed out a Chapter 9/8 Mini-Quiz that we went over in class. Here is the key for you to go over it yourself if you missed class today.
Tuesday June 4: the AM class loses this class to the awards ceremony. In the PM class we had time to work on the assignment from yesterday and we finally looked at the three challenge questions I left you with last Tuesday.

Optional homework, if you feel you need the practice, is to finish the rest of the complete the square examples on pages 4-5. We'll go over pages 8-9 at the start of class tomorrow. If you finish that, you can try starting in on pages 10-15. You'll get some time to work on those pages tomorrow.

Friday May 24: we started by going over a few homework questions from pages 389 and 403. Then we did a couple of ACCs for 7.3 (the file here has keys), and two 7.4 ACCs (again, the file here has keys at the end). After that, it was a few minutes to work on the reviews in the Notes Booklet: pages 18-22 and 30-36 (here is the pages 18-22 answer key and here is the page 30 key). Please note these typos: page 31 #1d is missing two answers: 1+or-sqrt14 and a typo for page 31 #2avi: it should be -6 not 6. And on page 32 #2d, the -2 answer is extraneous. If anyone finishes all these pages and wants more review over the weekend, try #1-10 of the Chapter 7 Practice Test on page 413 of the textbook.
Thursday May 23: work period to catch up on the textbook page 389 and 403 assignments from yesterday and the day before.
Wednesday May 22: We went through the 7.4 Lesson (pages 24-29, plus a couple of examples I added to your notes that aren't in the booklet) in the Chapter 7 Absolute Value and Reciprocal Functions Notes Booklet, which focused on reciprocals of quadratic functions. You can now do textbook page 403 #1-10,15,17,18,19. I'll give you tomorrow's class as a period to catch up on textbook homework from yesterday and today, and start on review. FRIDAY MAY 3 - CHAPTER 5 (A2, A3) RADICALS TEST
Thursday May 2: After checking in to see if anyone had any last questions about the Chatper 5 review, our lesson today is the 6.1 lesson on pages 2-5 of the Chapter 6 Rational Expressions and Equations Notes Booklet on simplification and finding non-permissible values of rational expressions. Here is the video of the lesson if you missed the class or want to see the examplkes again. The assignments for this lesson are the #1-7 practice questions on page 3 and the #1-9 Practice questions on page 6 of the booklet. The textbook questions listed at the bottom of page 6 are optional - if you feel that you need more practice, give them a try. The answer keys for the notebook pages are at the back of the booklet.
Wednesday May 1: we went over a few questions from the pages 22-27 Review in the Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet. If you are looking for more review for Friday's test, you can always go to the textbook review and practice test on pages 304-307 (ignore the word problems that ask for decimal solutions). Then I handed out the Chapter 6 Rational Expressions and Equations Notes Booklet. We went over some basic fraction rules together. If you need more refresher on your basic fraction rules and operations, there is a QR code link on the front cover of the new Chapter 6 notebook that takes you to a nice overall fraction review.
Tuesday April 30: we went over a few questions from page 21 of the Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet and page 300 of the textbook. Then I let the class have the rest of the period to work on the review on pages 22-27 of the booklet (the answer for page 22 #1h is #2c on the answer page).
Monday April 29: We started by going over a few questions on the Chapter 4 test. Then we corrected pages 19-20 of the Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet, then it was work time for Page 21 of the booklet and textbook page 300 #1, 3-11, 14, 15, 18,19, 20, 26.
Friday April 26: we went over the "you try" questions on pages 12 and 16 of the Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet. If you missed class today, here is the key for that. Then we checked in to see if anyone had any problems with the textbook questions. Then we did the 5.3 Lesson on Solving Radical Equations, which will take us from pages 18-20. If anyone misses the class, here is a video of the lesson. Your assignment is the bottom of page 19, then pages 20-21 (here is the key for pages 19-20) . We'll correct 19 and 20 on Monday and then give you some work time for the rest. Page 21 has its own key in the booklet. For more practice, do the textbook questions listed at the bottom of page 20.
Thursday April 25: we went over the "You try" questions on page 9 of the Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet. The we went through the 5.2 (A) and 5.2 (B) lessons on pages 10,11, 13-15. Your homework is to do the "you try" questions on pages 12,16, and 17 of the booklet. then textbook page 289 #1-11,13,14,17,20, 22. We'll correct the "you try" pages together tomorrow. Wednesday April 24: we went over the "You try" questions on page 7 of the Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet. Then we did the 5.1(B) Lesson, covering page 8 in the booklet. You can now do the "you try" pages 9 in the notes booklet. The assignment is textbook page 278 #5, 8-10,15, 17, 21-23 . We'll correct the "you try" page together tomorrow. If you missed today's class, or want to see examples again, today's lesson goes up to the 7:00 mark of this video.
R1 and R5 TEST (FACTORING AND QUADRATIC PROBLEM SOLVING) TUESDAY APRIL 23
Monday April 22: after checking in to see if there were any last minute Chapter 4 questions, we started Chapter 5: Radicals today, by going through pages 2-6 of the new Chapter 5 Radicals Notes booklet. Here is a video of the lesson if you missed it. The assignment is to do the "You try" questions on page 7 of the booklet. Bring it tomorrow and if you finish the chapter 4 test with time to spare you can work on it. We'll go over it in class on Wednesday. If you finish that page but you want more basic radical practice, you can start working on textbook page 278 #1-4,6,11,14, and 20.
Thursday April 18: we started with this ACC 4.5 which had some good Chapter 4 review on the back side (the file line has a key, so if you missed class you can download it and try it for yourself. Then we went over some problems from textbook pages 194, 254, 258, and 262. If you are caught up on textbook problems, you can work on the R5 Applications Booklet that I handed out today. If you are looking for more of the equation solving and factoring practice for next week's test, you can do page 258 #6-8,15,18,19
Wednesday April 17: work time for textbook pages 194 #13,14,18,21-23 and page 254 #8,10,14,15 and page 258 #4,5,10,11,16,17,20,21 and page 262 #11-14. If anyone finishes all of those, I have a R5 Applications Booklet that you can work on.
Tuesday April 16: we finished up the Lesson 4X examples on pages 17-18 of the Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet. Then we had a few minutes time to work on textbook pages 194 #13,14,18,21-23 and page 254 #8,10,14,15 and page 258 #4,5,10,11,16,17,20,21 and page 262 #11-14
Monday April 15: we started by seeing if anyone had any problems with the page 229 assignment. We continues with a Solving by Factoring Practice Quiz (here is the answer key). Then we went over a few of the word problem examples in Lesson 4X, pages 14-18 of the Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet. We'll finish those tomorrow. Friday April 12: we finished up the 4.4 lesson, pages 13-14 in the Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet. If you missed the class, here is the lesson video. The assignment is still the same, do this Chapter 4 worksheet (here is an answer key) and textbook page 254 #1-12,14,15,17-19,22.
Thursday April 11: the AM class loses this period to the Career Fair, plus there were a lot of folks away for Eid yesterday, so we'll make today's PM class just a work/catch up period. Work on the Chapter 4 worksheet (here is an answer key) and if you finish that, you could start textbook page 254 #1-12,14,15,17-19,22 - but don't panic if you see questions in that textbook assignment that you aren't sure how to do. Tomorrow's lesson, wrapping up 4.4 should clear those issues up.
Wednesday April 10: We started by going over a couple of the problems from yesterday's page 229 assignment. If you need a little more time for this assignment, you can have some work time tomorrow. Then after another quick review of how to complete the square from chapter 3, we derived the Quadratic Formula. That leads us to the notes for Lesson 4.4, pages 11-12 in your Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet. If you missed today's class, here is the video of the lesson. We'll go over pages 12-14 together on Friday. The assignment for 4.4 is this Chapter 4 worksheet (here is an answer key) and textbook page 254 #1-12,14,15,17-19,22 (there are a few uestions in there that you will need to see Friday's lesson for, but you can get started on it if you finish the worksheet). Tomorrow, I'll let the PM class have some work time for these assignments.
Tuesday April 9: we started by going over a few questions from the page 215 and 229 textbook assignments. Then we went through the examples on pages 7-8 of the Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet. The assignment for this section is textbook page 229 #11-12,16-18,21,24,26,30. Monday April 8: After going over the solutions to page 6 of the Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet together (if you missed class, here is a key for that page), we spent a few minutes looking at how to graph quadratics using DESMOS and a TI graphing calculator using some examples from the textbook. Here is the video for the 4.1 graphing technology part of the lesson. The assignment for this section is textbook page 215 #5,8-10,12. Remember that we are expecting you to use DESMOS to graph these questions. Reminder that you should also be working on page 229 #1-10

Friday April 5: I handed out our Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations Notes booklet and we started the chapter by reviewing and expanding our grade 10 factoring skills. This got us through pages #1-6 of the booklet. Here is the video for the factoring lesson if you missed class. If you need practice with these skills, remember that last week I handed out this trinomial factoring practice page. There is also a textbook assignment on page 229 #1-10.
CHAPTER 3: R3/R4 TEST THURSDAY APRIL 4th
Wednesday April 3: We did one more handout of a couple extra graph questions togther. Then I went over a couple of questions from the page 192 assignment. Then we had time to work on the "In Class Review" at the end of the Chapter 3 Quadratics notes package (watch out for the typo on #4, it should read "change to VERTEX form". Here are answer keys for them. . If you are looking for more review to try before tomorrow's test, there is a review and a practice test in the textbook at the end of the textbook chapter (you can skip the word problems - they'll be on the next test - after we finish chapter 4). Alternately, you could download this 3.1-3.2 Multiple Choice Quiz and give it a try (the file has a key at the end - watch out for the obvious typo in #1).

Then we checked to see if anyone had any problems with the 3.1 and 3.2 review assignments that I handed out before the break. Then we had work time for the textbook page 192 #1-12,16,20 assignment. Monday April 1: we started with lesson 3.3 pages 23-25 in the Chapter 3 Quadratics notes. The lesson is an algebra technique called "completing the square". It's our next step on the path towards being able to solve (and graph) any solvable quadratic equation, whether it's factorable or not. If you missed the class or want to see the lesson again, here is a video of the lesson. I made some slight alterations to the notes on pages 23-24, so I handed out a revised version of those two pages before we began. Your assignment for the rest of class is to finish the examples on pages 26-27. You can check your own answers using Desmos. After that, the next assignment is textbook page 192 #1-12,16,20.

Friday March 22: the AM class had work time for this 3.1 Pracitce Quiz (here is the key) and this other take home 3.1 and 3.2 Practice Quiz (the file link has the key at the end). The PM class lost the class to the spirit week event in the gym. Have a great spring break everyone!
Thursday March 21: we started by going over some questions from the page 157 and 174 assignments. Then we did the first page of this 3.1 Pracitce Quiz (here is the key). The homework for tonight (and the break) is to finish that quiz and do this other take home 3.1 and 3.2 Practice Quiz (the file link has the key at the end). Tomorrow's PM class is lost to a spirit week activity, so I won't do a new lesson with the AM class.
Wednesday March 20: work time for the 3.1 assignment: page 157 #1,2,4,5a,6-10,15,18 and the 3.2 assignment, page 174 #1-4, 6-9,10-14,19, 21-23. Also, for the people who need it, there is the trinomial factoring practice page.
Tuesday March 19: We started the class with a quick grade 10 factoring review - specifically focusing on perfect square trinomials. If you missed class or need more examples, check out this grade 10 lesson video. I handed out this trinomial factoring practice page if you want more pracitce for these. Then we went through the 3.2 Lesson on pages 18-21 of the Chapter 3 Quadratics notes. After that we had time to work on the assignment from Monday, page 157 #1,2,4,5a,6-10,15,18. If you finish that you can start on the 3.2 assignment: page 174 #1-4, 6-9,10-14,19, 21-23. You will get work time tomorrow. Monday March 18: Today we finished up the 3.1b lesson in the Chapter 3 Quadratics notes package. This takes us up to the end of page 17 in the notes booklet. The homework for this lesson is textbook page 157 #1,2,4,5a,6-10,15,18. Start bringing some graph paper to class for your sketching questions. Thursday March 14: we went through Lesson 3.1a and the first page of 3.1b (pages 5-12) in the Chapter 3 Quadratics notes package. No new assignment yet, so that gives you the long weekend to finish up the Functions, Domain, and Range (1.1) worksheet (omit #7) and a Functions and Function Notation (1.2) worksheet (omit #4,5). Tuesday March 12: we started with a check in to see if anyone had any questions about the Practice Test. Then we did the first 3 pages of the Chapter 3 Quadratics notes package, covering a brief review of functions. The FRC videos page does not have a video of this lesson, but if you missed this class I found an old video of this lesson from the COVID lockdown year here (up to the 9:30 mark). There is an assignment that goes with this lesson, a Functions, Domain, and Range (1.1) worksheet (omit #7) and a Functions and Function Notation (1.2) worksheet (omit #4,5). Here is a link to DESMOS and here is the answer key for 1.1 and for 1.2. You can save these worksheets for after the test and spend time tonight getting ready for tomorrow's test. With the class time that was left, people either worked on finishing their Practice Test (here is the answer key) or if you want more practice than that for tomorrow's test, go to textbook page 127 #11-24 or page 129 #4, 5,8-10.
Monday March 11: we started by checking to see if anyone has any homework issues from pages 108 or 119. Then we did the 2.3-2.4 Mini Quiz (the file link has a key). The rest of class was time to work on the Practice Test that I handed out (here is the answer key - a couple of the pages scanned upside down - I have no idea why and don't know how to fix it).
Friday Mar 8: we corrected the page 26 question in the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. Then we had time to work on textbook page 119 #1 - 7, 10, 12, 17,23, 24, 26, 29 (or if you are still working on the last assignment, page 108 #1-13,15,17,18,20,23)
Thursday Mar 7: we went over a few page 108 homework problems, then we did the notes and examples for lesson 2.4: Cosine Law, on pages 24-25 of the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. I'll leave the last example on page 26 for you to try for yourselves (example 23 has a typo, the bottom line should be 75 units) and we'll go over it tomorrow. The assignment for this section is textbook page 119 #1 - 7, 10, 12, 17,23, 24, 26, 29.
Wednesday March 6: we finished up the Congruent Triangle Activity. (if you missed yesterday and today and need instructions on how to do it, work your way through this power point). Then we did the Lesson 2.3B notes on pages 21-23 of the the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. The assignment for this section is textbook page108 #6-9,11, 17,23 (notice that this assignment just fills in the skipped questions of the last assignment). If you missed the class, the lesson is in this video.
Tuesday March 5: we started the Congruent Triangle Activity. I don't have a video for this activity, but if you missed class and want to try it for yourself, you can work your way through this power point that goes step by step on drawing the triangles. We'll probably need tomorrow's class to finish this activity up. For homework, answer the question: "will AAS prove I have a unique, congruent-to-all-triangles-with-the-same-givens situation, or are there two possible triangles that share those same givens? Also, make sure you have tried all of page 108 #1-5,10,12,13,15,18,20.
MONDAY MAR 4: TEST 2 - T1 and T2 - when you finish you can work on the assignment for Lesson 2.3A (Sine Law) on page 108 #1-5,10,12,13,15,18,20. Bring a protractor and a ruler for class tomorrow.
Friday Mar 1: we went over some questions from the Trigonomery Equation worksheet and this Trig Equation Part 2 worksheet, then we did the 2.2 Practice Quiz, and the 2.2B Practice Quiz. If you are looking for more review for Monday's test, try textbook page 126 #1-10, and page 129 #1-3. Towards the end of class we went through Lesson 2.3A (this WON'T be on Monday's test), but I won't officially assign the homework for this lesson until after the test on Monday. Next week, bring a geometry set (we need a ruler and a protractor).
Thursday Feb 29: we went over some textbook page 97 homework problems together. I also handed out a couple of trig equation practice worksheets: a Trigonomery Equation worksheet and this Trig Equation Part 2 worksheet (NOTE: the answer key on the back of the page is wrong for #3 and #4 - check the file linked here for the right answers).
Wednesday Feb 28: we did a 2.1.1 practice quiz (key attached). After that, we did a unit circle activity. The rest of the class was work time for textbook page 96 #1-16,18,21-24,29 (this is the combination of the two assignments from pages 15 and 17 of the notes booklet).
Tuesday Feb 27: we went over a couple of page 83 homework questions, we went through Lessons 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 on pages 14-17 in the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. If you missed the class or want to see the lesson again, it's covered in this video and this video. The assignment for this section is textbook page 96 #1-16,18,21-24,29 (this is the combination of the two assignments from pages 15 and 17 of the notes booklet). Monday Feb 26: we started by going over a few questions from the textbook page 83 assignment from Thursday. Then we did a 2.1.1 practice quiz before going back to the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook and going over the last examples on page 9 (that you were supposed to do for homework). Then we went through Lessons 2.1.3 on pages 10-13. The assignment for this section is to go back to textbook page 83 and do #8, 10-13, 22,23. I also handed back last week's Chapter 1 test.
Friday Feb 23: we went through Lesson 2.1.2 on pages 7-9 in the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. This doesn't quite take us to the next textbook assignment, so the homework is still textbook page 83 #1-7,9,15-17, 20 and (if you need it) the Right Angle Trigonometry Review (here is the key).
Thursday Feb 22: I handed out the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. We went through the Lesson 2.0 Trigonometry Review on page 2 of the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. If you need to practice this futher, you can now do the problems on the Right Angle Trigonometry Review (here is the key) that I handed out yesterday after the test. After that, we went through lesson 2.1.1, taking us to the end of page 6 in the Chapter 2: Trigonometry Notebook. The assignment for this section is textbook page 83 #1-7,9,15-17, 20.
CHAPTER 1 (R9,R10) TEST WEDNESDAY FEB 21 - if you finish with time to spare, you can start on this Right Angle Trigonometry Review.
Tuesday Feb 20: the slot 3 class had more work time for the Review and Practice Test on pages 66-70 (omit page 67 #15, page 68 #22, page 69 #7). We also spent a few minutes playing with a classic problem called Al's Allowance. Slot 5 students lost this class to the pep rally, but if anyone got stuck on any of the review/practice test questions and wants some help, I am around for a while after school today.
Friday Feb 16: we started by going over a few homework problems from the page 63 textbook assignment, then we did the 1.5 Mini Quiz. Then we looked at the problem on the last page of the Sequences and Series booklet. Then we had some work/ask questions time for the Review and Practice Test on pages 66-70 (omit page 67 #15, page 68 #22, page 69 #7). The test is Wednesday, but reminder that the PM class will lose Tuesday's class to the pep rally. Thursday Feb 15: after a deep conversation of why 0.999... must be equal to 1, we did the 1.4 Mini-Quiz. Then we had some time to work on textbook page 63 #1-5-8,11, 12, 14, 15 , 19, 20. The PM class had a little more time than the AM class, due to the registration meeting in slot 3, so the slot 5 class looked at a classic problem called Al's Allowance. Don't worry AM, students, you'll see this problem on Tuesday.
Wednesday Feb 14: we went over a few of the 1.4 textbook problems in Pages 53 #1-6, 8, 10, 11,13, 15-19. Then we did the 1.5 Lesson in the Sequences and Series booklet. This included a discussion of Zeno's Paradox. Here is the video for Lesson 1.5. The assignment for this section is textbook page 63 #1-5-8,11, 12, 14, 15 , 19, 20.
Tuesday February 13: we started with the 1.3 Mini-Quiz, then we had some work time for the page 53 assignment from yesterday. You should be done it by tomorrow.
Monday Feb 11: we went over a few homework problems from the page 39 assignment. Then we did the 1.4 Lesson in the Sequences and Series booklet. The assignment for this section is textbook Pages 53 #1-6, 8, 10, 11,13, 15-19.
Friday February 9: my guest teacher checked to see if anyone had any issues with the page 27 homework assignment from Wednesday, then she gave the class time to try the 1.2 Mini-Quiz from the Chapter 1 Mini Quizzes booklet I handed out on Wednesday (the key is in this file). After correcting that together, the class had work time for yesterday's page 39 assignment, due for Monday. The weekend would also be a good time to catch up on any page 16 and 27 problems you might still be fighting with, as well as finishing off the the grade 10 skill review sheet. Have a great weekend!
Thursday February 8: my guest teacher gave the class some time to work on the page 27 homework from yesterday. Then she did the 1.3 lesson in the Sequences and Series booklet. The assignment for this section is textbook P. 39 #1-10, 12, 13, 18, 20, 22, 23, 26, 27. You'll get some work time for it tomorrow and it will be due on Monday.
Wednesday February 7: we checked to see if anyone had any issues with the page 16 homework from yesterday. Then I handed out a booklet of Chapter 1 Mini Quizzes. We did the 1.1 Mini-Quiz in class today (here is the key). Then we went through Lesson 1.2 in the Sequences and Series booklet. The homework is textbook page 27 #1-7, 9,10,12,14,16,19,23. This is a slightly longer assignment than yesterday's, so we'll give you some work time tomorrow.
Tuesday February 6: we went over a few things on the grade 10 skill review sheet, then we looked at Lesson 1.1 in the Sequences and Series booklet. The homework is textbook page 16 #1-11,15,19,21,24,25. Also, if you need to, spend some time making sure that you understand how to do the material on the grade 10 skill review sheet. For anyone interested, here is an information sheet about upcoming math contests.
Monday February 5: Welcome to Pre-Calculus Math! We went over a course outline and an overview of the curriculum. Here is a Grade 10 Skill Review, just to refresh some skills while I hand out your first notes package, the Sequences and Series booklet, as well as your textbook. The questions on the Grade 10 Skill Review should be things you already know how to do, but don't panic if you need a little bit of refresher on those skills (definitely panic and run, don't walk to your counselor if you can't do any of it!).
